Buyers will be able to choose between rear- and four-wheel drive with any of the F-150's available powertrains.

Ford claims that the new 400-hp hybrid powertrain-which consists of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, a 35 kW electric motor, and a 10-speed automatic transmission-will offer up to 700 miles of driving range per tank and can also power an onboard generator for keeping the power flowing at job sites or during power outages. For the first time ever, the F-150 is also offered with a hybrid powertrain. No matter which engine you choose, the F-150 comes paired with a 10-speed automatic. The 2022 F-150 is available with several engines-a 290-hp 3.3-liter V-6 a 400-hp 5.0-liter V-8 a 325-hp twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 a 400-hp twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 and a 250-hp 3.0-liter diesel V-6. It costs almost $10,000 more than the XLT, which may put it out of reach for some buyers, but it has the best mix of features and affordability. While the XLT model is a step up from the basic XL work truck, we prefer the additional luxuries on the Lariat. The F-150 is available with multiple body styles and bed lengths. The all-electric F-150 Lightning will also launch for the 2022 model but we review that model separately. Atlas Blue joins the color palette this year too. It includes a tailgate step and locking cleat-style tie downs. The Bed Utility package is now available as an option on XL, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor trims and is standard on the upscale King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. We’re sure very few of them have regretted their purchase, so we're happy to put the F-150 on our Editors' Choice list. It's not quite as nice to live with on a daily basis as its chief rival, the Ram 1500, but huge numbers of buyers have historically been swayed by the Ford's reputation and wider range of available features. The F-150 has the grit to get the job done. A host of powertrains are offered too, including a hybrid and a diesel, and an off-road ready Tremor model promises to take you nearly anywhere you need to go.
Contractors and fleet managers will appreciate the low-cost and utilitarian nature of the base XL while oil barons and wealthy ranch owners will feel right at home in the King Ranch or Limited versions. With a wide range of trims and body styles, the 2022 Ford F-150 is a workhorse that can be outfitted to suit any number of tasks.
